Social media poster that is true

  • Social media propaganda poster says “Never forget the fact Adolf Hitler was Time Magazine’s “Man of the Year” in 1938. Moral of the Story: Mainstream media is not always reliable.
  • Surprisingly, Adolf Hitler was Time Magazine’s Man of the Year in 1938, as documented by Time.com.
  • This poster is effective because of its simplicity. Simple messaging is always most effective as compared to lengthy, detailed or difficult to comprehend messages.

My interpretation of Time Magazine’s 1938 commentary they thought Hitler was the most influential person of 1938. Their commentary hardly reads as an endorsement of Hitler (follow the link above).
Second, the poster says naming Hitler as “Man of the Year” confirms the media is not always reliable, without reviewing whether what Time wrote was accurate and reliable, or not.
Overall, this is an effective poster and the main claim is indeed true – Time did name Hitler as Man of the Year in 1938. It is not clear that this is a good argument that the media is not always reliable – there are plenty of other examples that better illustrate the unreliability of media 🙂 Linking this to media inaccuracy is a bit of a logical fallacy. Bottom line: An effective social media propaganda poster.
