I am investigating returning the SocialPanic blog to this web server

Last summer or fall, I moved the social.coldstreams.com content to hosting on wordpress.com.

I am considering moving it all back to this web server, and having the socialpanic.org URL redirect to this location.

Why?

More people read content on this original, old site, than do on the new web site. It seems that Google search downranks wordpress.com hosted blog sites. Consequently, the large quantity of search traffic that landed at social.coldstreams.com has never shown up at socialcoldstreams.wordpress.com/socialpanic.org.

Second, wordpress.com increased the cost of my hosting by about one-third to where it now costs me half as much to host the single blog on wordpress as I pay for my own virtual server where I can host many web sites.

I originally moved from this web server to wordpress.com hosting because of problems with comment spam, some difficulties (then) in setting up https for this server, and what had then been an intense period of software updates that took up much of my time.

I now have this server running https so that is no longer an issue.

The pace of software updates has slowed down to a manageable level.

That leaves comment spam. I do have several plug ins running that should help reduce that problem.

This transfer is not yet a done deal – but migrating the content from the wordpress.com host back to this server was just done as a test, and it worked.
