“Facebook doesn’t just collect data itself; it has purchased external data from data brokers; it creates “shadow profiles” of nonusers and is now attempting to match offline data to its online profiles.“
Am currently reading a book on the history of signals intelligence and Facebook clearly acts to “collect it all”, like some government spy agencies. You never know when old data might be useful for understanding events that happen in the future.
Facebook scrapes everything and figures out later how to analyze and profit from it. Facebook is a private sector, for profit intelligence agency.
Based on past history it is near certainty that Facebook readily shares it’s fire hose and database with government intelligence agencies as has been done routinely by telecom companies for decades.
