A new way to trash organizations on social media?

I was reading reviews of a “comic con”-type event in Seattle called Geek Girl Con. Most of the reviews are on their Faceobook page and most are favorable except for a long string of comments like these:

What happened is someone with a Facebook account, under the name PeeWee DeLeon, claimed to be an employee of Geek Girl Con. This individual also spouted a lot of hate speech on their Facebook page. There’s more:

The last post included a list of another 15 or so accounts associated with these attacks.

The trick is to create fake online accounts on Facebook or Twitter and allege that they belong to people affiliated with a business or organization. Then, fill those accounts with negative and atrocious commentary that is offensive to most people. Viewers who see this offensive commentary associate this persons comments with the organization that the person falsely claims to work for. This trashing of an organization goes on out of view of the organization.

This operation sounds similar to the alleged Russia-based Internet Research Agency campaign to stir up controversy and outrage among groups of people in the U.S.
