The problem with user generated content web sites -a.k.a. social media – is that much of the content is fake, incorrect or even fraudulent.
TripAdvisor, the 500-pound gorilla of travel review websites, has faced a growing problem with the credibility of many of its postings.
TripAdvisor has had a lot of problems, previously noted on this blog. These include TripAdvisor, in the past, censoring bad reviews and businesses posting bad reviews of their competitors. After a while, its just like Amazon reviews, where many reviews are fake. Not sure their new strategy will make much difference.
