PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland man says he’s the victim of mistaken identity and a lot of online harassment, because of a viral video.The clip, recorded during a downtown Portland protest on Oct.13, shows a man harassing a woman whose husband was killed on Sept. 11, 2001.

Social media mobs targeting the wrong person has happened many times.

The mob is now trying to destroy his life, threatening him with violence, destruction of his career and more, even though he has an alibi of being elsewhere and a physical characteristic different from the person in a viral video. Unfortunately this can happen to any of us and we might not be so fortunate as to have an alibi readily available.

This example points out the dangerous and reckless characteristics of social media and the modern mob mentality.
