Facebook says it is taking down any content that seeks to unmask the Ukraine whistleblower from its platform. The whistleblower sparked the Trump impeachment inquiry in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Neither the news media nor Facebook are under any legal requirements to censor the name of the whistleblower. There does not seem to be consistency in terms of when FB thinks its okay to out someone or not.

Update: Youtube is also removing any content that names the whistleblower.

Twitter says they do not have plans to censor tweets mentioning the whistleblower’s name.

Interesting – a side effect of not naming the whistleblower is that the wrong people are now being named and shamed and receiving death threats.
