Social media: Wanna-be Instagram star forces airliner to turn around and fly 1,000 miles back to airport

A Canadian man who dreams of becoming a “social-media star” stood up during a WestJet flight from Toronto to Jamaica and announced he thought he had the coronavirus.

After the plane took off on Monday, James Potok told the other 200-plus passengers he had recently been to China and now he was feeling ill.

“I had my camera with me,” the Ontario man told Canada’s Global News. “I was looking to get a viral video. I was looking to get it up on all the social-media platforms.”

“I’m an artist. Any publicity is good publicity.”

243 passengers had to be returned to Canada and significantly delayed a second flight. He is now under arrest in Canada where is is dealing with a previous issue regarding fraud.

His lawyers advised him to shut up and not talk. Naturally, he’s talking to the media and posting about this on social media.
