So why have a newspaper at all if the reader is expected to do their own journalism?

Some people will see this change as unfairly depriving Oregonians of important information. However, mugshots are widely available online from jail web portals. They are a matter of public record and should remain so.

This is sort of like self check out lanes in the grocery store. Now we have self-journalism where the reader is expected to research and write the story themselves.

And they wonder why subscribers have vanished?

There may be valid reasons not to publish mugshots but the above silliness should not be offered as a reason.
