“Civil rights groups demand Google remove Trump’s YouTube channel”

The irony of “civil rights” (which includes people saying things we do not like) groups demanding censorship on Youtube:

(Reuters) – U.S. civil rights groups will organize an advertiser boycott against Alphabet’s YouTube if it does not remove President Donald Trump’s channel, the groups told Reuters.

They are threatening extortion if they do not get their way. Civil. Rights. Groups. Hmmmm….

Update: And their “demand” is granted as Youtube suspends Trump’s YT channel and commenting on it, for seven days.

Update: It is understandable why BigTech is shutting down Trump, presumably. But this means BigTech has the potential to shut down anything, to control speech on topics they don’t like (say, posts or videos opposed to H-1B visa hiring programs) – basically this shows that BigTech does indeed have the potential to control the world.

Whether they have or have not controlled the world is not the point: the point is that by a coordinated action to remove all online platforms from a sitting US President, BigTech is more powerful than U.S. government institutions. Think about that.
