How is this not state censorship? “Attorneys general call on Facebook and Twitter to remove anti-vaxxers”

Restricting speech by proxy is still restricting speech. The First Amendment still exists.

Twelve state attorneys general on Wednesday called on Facebook and Twitter to enforce their guidelines and rid their services of anti-vaccine misinformation.

Reading through to the original press release they carefully word it to ask that social media remove “misinformation”. But this treads a thin line over the concept of free speech when government officials make this request. Free speech used to be considered sacrosanct in the U.S.

The traditional answer to opinion speech we do not like is more speech. If you think government should censor speech, ask yourself, how do we select who gets to be the censor?
