Google Drive will scan your cloud files, restrict access if they contain wrong-think

The search giant has announced a new policy that will restrict access to files violating its policies, and prevent them from being shared in the process.

Google announced this change in a blog post, revealing that restrictions may be put in place on files that violate Google’s Terms of Service or abuse program policies. While the owner will still have full access, this move means sharing privileges will be revoked — even if someone already has a link.

Google’s abuse program policies page detail a number of sensitive topics that it doesn’t allow. They include, but are not limited to, dangerous and illegal activities, hate speech, malware, sexually explicit material and misleading content.

I discontinued making much use of Google Drive/Cloud services long ago, ever since they locked up people’s files because they had scanned them and found naughty language. This froze student’s papers, about to be turned in, and professors and businesspeople lost access to presentations they were about to present. This was the first we learned that not only did Google use AI software to scan your Google email, but was also scanning your documents.

I stopped using Google services almost immediately after that because they could no longer be considerable a reliable cloud service.
