Trust in scientists and medical scientists has fallen below pre-pandemic levels, with 29% of U.S. adults saying they have a great deal of confidence in medical scientists to act in the best interests of the public. This is down from 40% in November 2020 and 35% in January 2019, before COVID-19 emerged. Other prominent groups – including the military, police officers and public school principals – have also seen their ratings decline.

Not a surprise. They made many false statements from the beginning, and rather than acknowledged errors, frequently doubled down on them. From masks don’t work in the community, as all pre-pandemic research had shown, to an instant flip to “random bits of cloth work”.

By June, public health scientists actually said that protesting (BLM issues) was more important than fighting a virus. This, after telling us for months to stay home, save lives. 1,200 signed a petition saying this before an adult entered the room and took it off line.

Disease models have been a total fiasco, generally wrong – by a lot. Remember 15 days to flatten the curve? We are now on 2+ years of that nonsense.

Remember the CDC Director telling us – twice – that if we all wore masks this would be over with within weeks? We had 94% compliance and daily cases then increased by a factor of 10x.

Every day brings “dueling experts” on social media and in the news. One says X and the other says not X. If you are confused, they then blame you for being an idiot. Seriously.

By the time of Omicron, it was apparent that not one thing we’ve done made any difference. In my County, it is estimated that 80% of the population has had Covid. In Rhode Island, it is estimated that 90% of the population has had Covid. So what was the point of all the mandates? They accomplished nothing.

The typical pandemic lasts 1-3 years – this one is now at 2+ years and counting. Nothing they had us do made any difference.

People have noticed the experts had no clue. Needless to say, this leads to a loss of trust and confidence in these institutions. Worse, that loss of trust may spread to science, generally. That’s what this leads to.
