Media: News cannot get the simplest of facts correct

Bend, Oregon TV Station KTVZ reported, after a heavy snowstorm on Sunday, that thanks to the airport’s plow operations, no commercial flights were impacted.

Really?

KTVZ “News” could have easily fact checked their own news report by visiting the flight status page on the airport’s web site.

Many people posted on their social media pages that their own flights or flights of family members were canceled. Everyone who saw this article had the same interpretation: WHAT? Most of the flights were canceled.

UPDATE

Here’s the problem. On the day that 80% of flights were canceled, did the news report that most all flights were canceled? Nope.

That most flights were canceled is the story – but instead they ran this story about the snowplows operating and claiming that no commercial flights were impacted because of the snowplows. What? In fact, I heard a flight come in from Seattle (listening to local ATC radio) – but the crew concluded based on updated runways conditions that they had insufficient braking capacity – aborted their approach and returned to Seattle.

Even if you buy their – no flights were impacted because of the snowplows claim – they still missed the actual story: almost all flights were canceled! Their news report was wrong, and certainly very confusing at best.
