Stanford University releases their Dictionary of NewSpeak

The complete list of words that shall not be spoken.

Included are such things as:

brave – “This term perpetuates the stereotype of the “noble courageous savage,” equating the
Indigenous male as being less than a man.” Actually -> “First recorded in 1475–85; from Middle French, from Spanish bravo, either from Italian or directly from unattested Vulgar Latin brabus for Latin barbarous barbarous

chief – “Calling a non-Indigenous person “chief” trivializes both the hereditary and elected chiefs in
Indigenous communities. Calling an Indigenous person “chief” is a slur.” Actually -> “First recorded in 1250–1300; Middle English, from Anglo-French chief, chef, Old French chef, from unattested Vulgar Latin capum, re-formation of Latin caput head

tribe – “Historically used to equate Indigenous people with savages. ” Actually -> “First recorded in 1200–50; Middle English, from Old French tribu, from Latin tribus “tribe,” originally, any of the three divisions of the Roman people; perhaps of Etruscan origin, perhaps a derivative of trēs (masculine and feminine), tria (neuter) “three” (combining form tri-) + -bus, a suffix of unclear formation;”

American – “This term often refers to people from the United States only, thereby insinuating that the US is the most important country in the Americas (which is actually made up of 42
countries)”. Actually -> Originating in 1570, it refers to all of those countries too.

stupid – “Once used to describe a person who could not speak and implied the person was
incapable of expressing themselves. ” Actually -> “1535–45; <Latin stupidus, equivalent to stup(ēre) to be numb or stunned + -idus-id

user – “While often associated with one who uses (software, systems, services), it can also
negatively be associated with those who suffer from substance abuse issues or those who
exploit others for their own gain” Actually -> “First recorded in 1350–1400; Middle English usere;”

submit – as in the Submit button on software applications should be replaced with “process” as the term might imply allowing someone to have power over you.

master – “Historically, masters enslaved people, didn’t consider them human and didn’t allow them to express free will, so this term should generally be avoided.”. Actually -> “First recorded before 900; Middle English maistre, maister, Old English magister, from Latin; akin to magnus “great”  Stanford, however, is not eliminating and closing their Master degree programs … shame on the racist Stanford institution that ignores its own mandates!

immigrant – should be replaced by “one who had immigrated”. What?

African-American – should be referred to as Black, including Elon Musk?

They’ve gone totally off the deep end, concluding that words like “red team”, “yellow team”, “white team”, etc, must be offensive. In fact, we must ban the colors “red”, “yellow”, “white”, “brown” and “black” if they are serious (and they are!)

You can see where this is leading – Since all words have been used in multiple ways throughout history, Stanford University is literally proposing the entire English language must be abolished as every word has a negative connotation somewhere, at some point in time. In many cases, Stanford has literally made-up negative definitions out of thin air.

Indeed, “Stanford” is named for Leland Stanford, Jr, the son of  Leland Stanford” who was well known as one of the great 19th century “Robber barons”. The transcontinental railroad project he spearheaded abused thousands of Chinese laborers, for example, and treated many workers poorly. Over 1,200 died. Initially, he supported a whites-only project to keep Asians out of California.

When he could not hire sufficient whites, he relented and hired Chinese immigrant laborers.

Of course, this charade comes from the culture of perpetual outrage that actively seeks out reasons to be outraged.

Stanford seems incapable of seeing that the entire English language must be thrown out immediately and replaced with a gender-neutral language like Spanish or French or German – oh wait ….

Stanford University is a stupid American university that should submit to new leadership, such as a brave chief that shows an ability to master commonsense, since the University has none.

I’m glad they didn’t get into phrases like brain injured idiot.

(For the record, I have had one skull fracture/moderate traumatic brain injury, 4 additional knock out blows, some of which involved other broken bones, broken bike helmets, and one non-knock out blow that left me with “slow speech”, “slow brain function” and brain fog for almost 3 weeks. I have been told by doctors as recently as the summer of 2022 that I am a “miracle” to have recovered so well. So even though I am a brain injured idiot, Stanford will probably “have a cow” (is that legal now?) with using that phrasing.)
