Media: Stupid story spin of the day

The story spins negativity, creating a class of “victims” and oppressors. Except there isn’t really any difference at all between the groups.

But thanks to the Great Recession’s economic headwinds and widespread student loan debt, it’s taken millennials a bit longer than previous generations to cross the threshold as a homeowner majority generation. In 2022, the average millennial was 34. When Gen X reached this same milestone, their average age was 32. Boomers achieved majority homeownership as a generation at the average age of 33. Despite the gains though, many potential homebuyers are struggling in the current market.

What is mostly good news is spun as bad news.

Reporter Megan Leonhardt leaves out critical context. When the baby boomers were buying their homes in 1980:

  • Inflation was 13.5%
  • The average mortgage rate was 11.5%
  • Unemployment was 7.2%
  • The U.S. experienced two back-to-back recessions.
  • 1980 experienced the highest home price inflation in U.S. history.

Compare that to today – about 6-7%, about 6%, and 3.9%.

Modern journalism has become a joke of nonsensical spin.

More headlines designed to be divisive:

Also ignored – the numerical size of the generations is not equal either.

And all of these headlines are spin at best, but from the above data, basically outright lies. There are reasons most people no longer trust journalists. Because they are all activists with axes to grind – truth is incidental now.
