Fact checks are the new propaganda technique
As noted previously, “Fact Checks” are themselves a form of propaganda. The “fact checkers” decided what topics will be “fact checked”, and then, typically, select an expert or experts (who often have their own biases) to “fact check” – if the fact checkers talk to experts at all.
AP ran a “Fact check” on Dr. Fauci’s comment that community masks might, perhaps, be 10% effective (which is equivalent to zero effectiveness[1]). The AP was not happy with the direct quote from Dr. Fauci, so instead they attacked those who passed along his quote.
Here’s the AP Fact Check tweet:
Read the comments to the AP Fact check and everyone saw through this fake fact check by the AP.
[1] 10% effectiveness is the same as no effectiveness. Let’s say the R-0 of Covid is 3.0. If community use of masks is 10% effective, then R-0 goes from 3.0 to 2.7 – and Covid is still spreading exponentially. At best, you’ve delayed cases by a day or two – but you never prevented Covid from spreading. Ultimately, pandemics end through immunity (vaccine or natural or both), or the virus mutates to a less virulent form – or all of the above. Pandemics of highly transmissible respiratory viruses are never stopped by NPIs – at absolute best, some NPIs can delay cases by a little. Per WHO, most NPIs do not work or are not sustainable.
